Liberal has had Guymon’s number for quite a while now, and it is hard to get a good gauge on just how much improvement was made from Week 1 to Week 2 when the Tigers were not just facing the Redskins but also trying to erase history.

Here’s a few observations that can be made:

Good teams are supposed to win bigalt

Forget who the opponent is or how god they are, good football teams find a way to put up big numbers, and the Redskins were able to do that Friday night.

Not only did the starters find their way to the end zone five times, but the reserves also put together two scoring drives in the fourth quarter. That is a strong indication about the depth of the Redskins, something that good teams need.

Liberal can run the ball with more than one back

Last year as a freshman, Syris Dunlap had to play a larger role than expected and became the go-to guy in the backfield.

It comes as little surprise that Dunlap as a sophomore is still a force to be reckoned with, but alongside him, Alan Marquez has shown the ability to move the ball as well. Both had 100-yard games Friday, and that will force defenses to split their focus after last year when Dunlap was the only threat.

Cesar Burciaga and Isiah Witherspoon also found the end zone Friday night. The running game is alive and well for the Redskins.

The defensive front is solid

After two weeks and facing a strong counter and trap game by Ulysses and a commitment to the dive by Guymon, the Angry Red front five have shown they will not be gouged up the middle.

The middle pass defense needs work

Throwing down the sidelines will be risky for anyone against the Redskins defense, but Guymon exposed a weakness in the middle with crossing routes that had some success.

Liberal will need to fix that if they want to be a lock-down defense.

PATS no problem

Burciaga was a perfect seven for seven on extra point attempts. I can’t tell you how many past seasons would have been better if the Redskins could have done that. Burciaga’s foot is a hidden gem that will make the difference this season.
