Entries now being accepted for those who believe they make the best chili in the region

Seward County United Way will be hosting its third annual Chili & Supper Cook-Off from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Light Park.

The event will take place during the Duck Festival, hosted by the Liberal Chamber of Commerce.

To enter a chili or soup, fill out the entry form at www.scunitedway.com, or call 620-624-5400. There is an entry fee of $25 entry fee, and the last day to register is Sept. 29.

To add some fun to the chili and soup cook-ff and the Duck Festival, United Way is starting the day of Sept. 30 with a Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk. This event will take place starting at 8 a.m. at Light Park.

This 5K is a timed race with awards for top finishers in each division. Registration for the 5K run is $20, the 1-mile walk is $15, and family of four can register for the 5K for $60. Those who register by Sept. 15 will receive a T-shirt. 

Event day registration will take place starting at 7 a.m. Sept. 30 at Light Park. Prices for those registration are $30 for the 5K, $20 for the 1-mile walk and $65 for a family of four in the 5K.

Register online at active.com. As with the chili and soup cookoff, all proceeds will go the United Way to help its 25 local non-profit agencies.
