JOHNSON – Herb (H.C.) Klassen, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at his home.  

He was born Jan. 26, 1940 to Adolf W. Klassen and Iva (Ault) Klassen in Garden City. 

He married Velma Stokes May 29, 1960. She survives.

He attended school in Syracuse, where he graduated from Syracuse High School. 

He was a third generation farmer in Hamilton County.

Most of his life, he ran cattle, and his family called him a cattle-aholic. He also farmed, but it was a sideline to run more cattle. 

He received Christ as his personal savior Aug. 10, 1958. Afterward, he supported missionaries all over the world.

Survivors also include daughter, Kitty Banning and husband, Jimmy, Ulysses; daughter-in-law, Laraine Robert and husband, Steve, Sterling; sister, Eileen (Glen) Bishop ; grandchildren: Jerrad (Alyssa) Banning, Katarina (David) Phillips, Kraig (Tressa) Klassen, Jessica (Austin) Earle, Kandra (Luke) Schweizer; five great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson, with two more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William (Bill) Klassen; son, Mike Klassen; twin grandsons; and one great-grandson.

 Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses with Pastor James Berry presiding.  

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.  

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
