Prairie Pet Mobile Vet has had much success in the areas it services and soon, the practice will be able to gain further success with a permanent location in the Liberal community.

“A lot of the motivation came from us wanting to provide more services to the community,” Prairie Pet Mobile Vet veterinarian Elizabeth Norman said. “I feel we do a great job reaching out to the smaller surrounding communities with our mobile services, so we wanted to be able to provide more of that in Liberal.”

Discussion about acquiring a permanent building has been ongoing for a long time, according to Norman.

“It’s been in the works for a while. We can credit the manager at Ace Hardware for ousting us out of our long-term spot, really, because that made us really consider what we wanted to do,” Norman said. “So I really have to thank him for that final push to find something. As far as getting moved in and all that, that is all still ongoing. We don’t take physical possession of the building until Sept. 29, and we expect it to be actually open in November.”

The practice’s new location will be 43 S. Western in Liberal, and Norman said she is excited for it all to finish getting put together.

“There’s going to be someone at the building available, and they’ll be able to sell food, do medication refills, which can sometimes be a hassle, those types of things,” Norman said. “Another major thing will be we’ll have a state of the art boarding facility, and we expect to have a lot of amenities for those pets who stay here. With that, we’re wanting to mimic the big city options like with styles of kennels, and we’ll have everything in place for the animals’ comfort and safety, which is really important to me for us to have. Also, sometimes being on the road makes it hard for us to be available for our Liberal patients if they need something urgently like medication refills or prescription diet stuff, so we really want to be more convenient for our Liberal patients.”

The permanence of the location is a particular draw, Norman added.

“Just having a permanent location, I’m really excited about that, and also being more available for the people in Liberal so we can serve them,” Norman said. “We’re going to really be able to serve the Liberal community better through having the building. I’m also excited about the boarding potential, we expect to have cameras around so pet owners can log in and see their pets and how they’re doing, so we’re really wanting to push the boundaries of what people expect for such a big facility.”

And with the location in Liberal, Norman said there will  be no effects on the other communities the practice serves.

“That actually has been a concern raised by some people, but we will continue to be mobile on the days of the week we typically are, and those days are Monday in Beaver, Okla., and then Tuesday and Thursday in Hugoton,” Norman said. “We will continue to provide to those community like normal, and then the other days, we’ll be here in town.”

Norman said the location will be great for the Liberal community.

“We expect to be boarding for Thanksgiving, and we’ll be giving preference to our more routine customers as far as the boarding fees go and all of that,” Norman said. “We really want to be more convenient for our Liberal patients, and this is a great way for us to do that.”
