ELKHART – Michael Serrato, 58, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.  

He was born July 27, 1959 to John and Victoria (Martinez) Serrato in Liberal.  

He married Deb Robertson July 4, 1995, in Las Vegas. She survives.

He graduated from Yarborough High School in 1977.  While in high school, he played football and was on the debate team.  

Since the age of 18, he worked in the oilfield industry. He had many jobs, including boss and consultant.  

He coached his grandchildren’s teams in football, baseball, T-ball and basketball.  They enjoyed time together fishing and hunting.

He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles.  

He was an avid supporter of USD 218 and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors also include children: Kelsie Serrato, Pampa, Texas, Tami Talbert, Elkhart, Shawn Talbert, Elkhart, and Brooke White, Elkhart; foster father, Leon Humphrey; brothers: Joseph Serrato, Jared Humphrey, Jeremy Humphrey, Kendal Humphrey, and Kevin Humphrey; sister, Kay Kreklau; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephew, Felipe Serrato; niece, Kristen Woods; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Luis and Jessica Serrato, Joe and Simona Alires-Martinez; sister, Mary Serrato; and foster-mothers, Janice Humphrey and Virginia Tucker.

 Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at the First Church of God in Elkhart with Pastor Keith Davis and Pastor Jimmye Cole presiding.  

Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.  

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
