A three-vehicle fatality resulted in the death of a Jetmore man Saturday afternoon near Kismet.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, a 2009 Ford F-150 was eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 and was slowing down to turn left on to Delaware Street into Kismet.

At that same time, a 2003 Saturn Vue, the KHP said, failed to yield to the pickup that was slowing and rear ended it. Following that impact, the Saturn spun across the center lane and was struck by a third vehicle, a 2017 Kenworth semi, which was westbound on Hwy. 54.

The KHP report said the Saturn came to rest in the westbound ditch, the F-150 came to rest on the eastbound shoulder, and the semi came to rest in a field east of the highway.

The driver of the Vue, 19-year-old Clayton Klein of Jetmore, died in the accident. The pickup’s driver, Donald Ward, 55, of Kismet, a passenger in the pickup, Carolyn Ward, 56, of Kismet, and the driver of the semi, Javier Ramirez, 46, of Murrieta, Calif., all escaped the accident with no injury.

The KHP report said all those involved in the accident were wearing their seat belts at the time of the wreck.
