Lady Warriors, Lady Apaches wrap up volleyball season PDF Print E-mail

Eisenhower and Seymour Rogers middle schools finished the volleyball season Saturday by competing in the Middle School Western Athletic Conference tournaments.

The seventh grade tournament took place in Great Bend with the Lady Warriors finishing in second.

The Lady Apaches were close to advancing to bracket play. Seymour Rogers defeated Dodge City 2-0 but lost to Eisenhower 2-0. The Lady Apaches dropped a tough match to Horace Good 2-1 to finish 1-2 on the day.

Eisenhower seventh graders came into the tournament as the No. 1 seed and swept pool play, knocking off Dodge City, Horace Good and Seymour Rogers to advance to bracket play.

The Lady Warriors defeated Kenneth Henderson in the semi-finals, 25-6, 25-2 to advance to the championship. Hays knocked off Horace Good 25-10, 25-9 to reach the title tilt with the Lady Warriors.

But the Lady Warriors couldn’t top Hays, dropping the championship 23-25, 22-25 to finish the season in second place with a 23-1 record.

In the eighth grade tournament in Garden City, Seymour Rogers dropped the opener to Horace Good 2-0 before earning a 2-0 win over Dodge City.

But Hays defeated the Lady Apaches with a 2-0 victory, ending the season for Seymour Rogers at 10-11, one win away from bracket play.

“I am beyond proud of the way these girls have played and the way they fought for every point on that court,” Seymour rogers eighth grade coach Heather Olmstead said. “These girls have come so far since the beginning of the season.”

 The Lady Warrior eighth graders earned a 2-1 win over Great Bend before dropping a match to Dodge City 2-1.

But Eisenhower knocked off Kenneth Henderson 2-0 to advance to bracket play.

The Lady Warriors ended their run for a title in the semi-finals, falling 2-0 to Hays.

Hays went on to defeat Dodge City to earn the championship.
