Dale Eugene Sprague, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver. 

He was born Oct. 16, 1939 to Clayton E. and Ida Lee (Wright) Sprague in Liberal. 

He married Anita Watkins Jan. 9, 1960, in Goodwell, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Liberal High School in 1957. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in 1962, and his master’s degree from Oklahoma University in 1967.  

He worked as a math teacher for USD 480, where he retired in 1994.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fargo Lodge #300, the Liberal Early Risers Kiwanis Club, the Retired Teachers Association, Midian Shrine, Scottish and York Rites, the National Council of Math Teachers, Liberal NEA, Kansas NEA, OU Alumni and the Panhandle State University Alumni.  

He served in Kanas Army Reserves from 1957 to 1965.  

Survivors also include sons, Dale E. Sprague Jr., Dubuque, Iowa, and Eric A. Sprague and wife, Donna, Emporia; daughter, Danita K. Thompson and husband, Jeff, Desoto, Texas; sister, Ruth I. Schilling, Boone, Iowa; six grandchildren: Nichole Stokes and husband, Jeff, Blue Springs, Mo., Stephanie Kaye Sprague, Dubuque, Iowa, Audrey Sprague, Emporia, Blake Sprague and wife, Katelyn, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Collin D. Sprague, Emporia, and Alexis Thompson, Desoto, Texas; great-grandchildren, Baylee Stokes, Blue Springs, Mo., and Braelyn Stokes, Blue Springs, Mo.; half-uncles, Jerry Wright and wife, Mary, Oklahoma City, and Leonard Wright and wife, Linda, Texhoma, Okla.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Faye H. Butler; and half-brother, Joe Butler.

• Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal with Pastor Keith Anglemeyer presiding.  

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.  

Cremation has taken place

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church.
