Over the homecoming weekend, 19 members of the Liberal High School class of 1950 celebrated their 60th anniversary in conjunction with the classes of 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954. They first attended the homecoming parade, followed by the chili supper previous to the football game. On Saturday, they met at the Friends Church for a luncheon. In the evening, they joined the other four classes at a banquet at the Ag Building, followed by a program with Milan Hart of the class of 1951 as master of ceremonies. The class of 1950 was the last class to graduate from the old auditorium at the high school building located at Sixth and Lincoln. The next classes graduated from Rindom Hall located on Lincoln Street. The class had 73 students. Sixty years later, there are 20 of the class that have passed and six with no known addresses. That leaves 47 to contact. At the reunion, there were 19 classmates and with them were 12 spouses making a total of 31. There were people from California, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and, of course, Kansas. Ever since the 50th reunion in 2000, there has been a group that is from Liberal and the surrounding area that meets every quarter just to visit and reminisce about old times. Courtesy photo
