A Hooker, Okla., man is dead following a fatality accident Friday afternoon west of the Texas County, Okla., town.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said at about 4 p.m. Friday, a 2003 Chevy Venture and 2014 Peterbilt were headed eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 about three and a half miles west of Hooker.

OHP reported the Peterbilt was slowing down to make a right turn onto Texas County Road N. Troopers said the driver of the Venture, Eduardo Lopez-Perez, 33, of Hooker, was unaware of the semi slowing down.

Lopez-Perez’s vehicle struck the rear portion of the trailer of the Peterbilt. After being extricated with the jaws of life by Hooker EMS, he was transported to Memorial Hospital of Texas County (MHTC) in Guymon, Okla. It was there he was pronounced dead from trunk internal injuries, the OHP said.

The semi’s driver, 47-year-old Earl Whitson McDaniel of Dumas, Texas, was transported by Guymon EMS to MHTC, where he was treated and released.

The OHP said seat belts were equipped and in use in both vehicles.
