Joan Chuesberg, 81, of Adams, Okla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018 at her home. 

Joan was born Sept. 1, 1936 in Adams, Okla. on the family farm. She was the daughter of Royce George and Mary Ann (Schroeder) Mires.

Joan attended school in Adams, graduating with the Class of 1954 and was Valedictorian of the class. She attended college at Central Christian College in Bartlesville, Okla. for one year.

She was united in marriage to Leon Chuesberg on June 19, 1955 at her parents’ farm home near Adams. She was blessed with three children and during this time attended Panhandle A & M in Goodwell, Okla. where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught first grade at McDermott Elementary school in Liberal and later Adams School. She retired after teaching for 14 years.

Joan and Leon fostered more than 50 children in their home.

Joan was a member of the Hooker Church of Christ, she taught Bible school on a regular schedule as well as teaching crafts at Black Mesa Bible Camp near Kenton, Okla.

She was a member of the Adams Homemaker Extension Club since 1983 holding all officers’ positions through the years.

Joan enjoyed sewing, quilting gardening and was a wonderful cook. She was an avid Bible reader and student.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sherry Lynn; son, Gary;  and two sisters, Sue Antwine and Vida Walker.

Members of the family include her husband, Leon Chuesberg of the home; daughter, Mary Jo Foster and her husband, Dean of Derby; sister, Delores Hanna and her husband, Paul of Columbia, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Bill Antwine of McKinney, Texas, and Joe Walker of Topeka.

• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at the Church of Christ in Hooker, Okla., and there will be a 2 p.m. graveside at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to In Search of the Lord’s Way-TV ministry or Silver Maple Camp or New Mexico Children’s Home and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
