MEADE – Darrel L. Taylor, 84, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.

He was born Jan. 14, 1933 to Frank Henry and Fannie (Comstock) Taylor in Uniontown. 

He married Amy JoAnn Brown Nov. 5, 1955. The couple divorced in 1977.

He graduated from Uniontown High School May 14, 1946.  

After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he worked in various capacities including a cable layer for AT&T. 

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Eagles Lodge, all of Garden City. 

He enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, hunting, antiques, engaging in politics, watching game shows, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include five daughters: Beck Andrews and husband, Butch, Greely, Colo., Tammy Heimeyer and husband, Rick, Kilgore, Texas, Pam Taylor, Liberal, Diane Baldridge and husband, Doug, Tyrone, Okla., and Peggy Neel and husband, Billy, Meade; sister, Carol Wilson, Manzanola, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Frank Taylor Jr., Don Taylor, and Dale Taylor; and sister, Thelma McWilson.

 Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.  

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at the funeral home.  

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott.

Memorials are suggested to the Lone Tree Retirement Center, the Senior Center of Garden City, or the veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
