A man is in the Seward County Jail following a high speed chase Saturday afternoon that started in neighboring Haskell County.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Racy said officers with the KHP were advised around 4:10 p.m. Saturday of an erratic driver in Haskell County.

Racy said the driver, Juan Carlos Mar-Garcia, 22, was headed south on U.S. Highway 83 in a black Camaro with red racing stripes.

“Haskell County attempted to stop the vehicle, started pursuing the vehicle,” he said. “They lost sight of the vehicle. Our troopers observed the vehicle in Seward County, turned around to make a stop for speeding. The vehicle took off and sped away from them. They had a chase. They were stopped, and the driver was arrested at approximately 4:40 at Milepost 7 in Seward County.”

Racy said Mar-Garcia’s car was clocked at multiple speeds, including some in excess of 100 miles per hour. He said deputies with the Haskell County Sheriff’s office initiated the chase, and KHP was joined by deputies from Seward County in getting the Camaro stopped.

No first appearance has been scheduled for Mar-Garcia at this time, according to the Seward County Attorney’s office, but there were 14 charges listed against him, including one count each of:

1. Unlawful possession of a controlled substance

2. Interference with law enforcement

3. Flee and attempt to elude

4. Reckless driving

5. DUI

6. Possession of drug paraphernalia

7. Transporting an open container

8. Driving while suspended or revoked

9. Operating without a valid driver’s license

10. Maximum speed limits (speeding)

11. Driving left of center

12. Failure to obey a traffic control device

13. Improper lane change

14. Failure to maintain a single lane
