The 15th ranked Tyrone Bobcats held off the Goodwell Eagles to pick up a 55-47 win in a game that was close throughout.

alt"I thought it was a sloppy game," Bobcats coach Clay Witt said. "We just came off a tournament weekend when it's hard to get back your legs. We've got to block out so we can get our hands on some rebounds. We caused them to take bad shots, but they got a lot of second opportunities because we didn't block out."

Too many second chance points kept a Goodwell team that has now lost five straight within striking distance. After five lead changes in the first quarter, Tyrone took the lead and although it was close throughout, never relinquished it.

Alex Torres came off the bench to lead the Bobcats offense with 14 points, including a pair of threes. Johnathan Corralles and Chance Duty each added 11, and Brian Holley scored 10.

Tyrone lead 14-11 after one quarter of play. The two teams traded baskets in the second with the Bobcats leading 27-24 at the half. Both teams had their best offensive outputs in the third, with the pick and roll especially keying the Bobcats offense.

"Our pick and roll game in the third was good," Witt said. "It kind of saved us in that stretch of the game."

Leading 43-38 heading into the final stanza, Tyrone extended their lead to double-digits for the only time in the game with a 7-2, going up 50-40 with 4:40 to play. But Goodwell battled right back with their own 7-0 run to make the score, 50-47 with 2:45 left to play.

But that would be the final points for the Eagles. Tyrone made just 3 of 8 free throws down the stretch that kept Goodwell within striking distance, but held on for the win.

No.15 Tyrone (8-2) will host Felt, Thursday and travel to Balko, Friday.
