ALVIN, Texas – William F. Streiff, D.C., 97, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 following a short illness. 

He was born in Dayton, Ohio.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a B-24 mechanics instructor at the base in Liberal, later becoming a staff sergeant. After the war, he obtained his pilot’s license on the GI Bill and enjoyed flying his Cessna 177 Cardinal and even flew a helicopter at age 90. 

He graduated from Miami-Jacobs Business College. He also attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, graduating magna cum laude in 1970, and was salutatorian and historian of his class.

After the war, he built and managed the Snack Shack Drive-In in Liberal.

He initiated and practiced in clinics of chiropractic in Kansas and Texas but was also licensed in Iowa and Washington, receiving many awards for his service as a chiropractic. As a certified instructor in the Gonstead Chiropractic Methodology, he conducted approximately 100 seminars for chiropractic students at the college in Pasadena, Texas. His legacy includes inspiring each of his four children, his daughter-in-law, and his granddaughter to become doctors of chiropractic. 

He was also a musician and played piano in several orchestras over the years and directed two of them.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

He also studied with and was a member of AMORC (Ancient and Mystical Order of Rosae Crucis, also known as the Rosicrucian Order) for many years and was a 32nd degree Mason as well as a member of the Midian Shrine.

Survivors include his wife Helen; daughter, Dr. Muriel Owens; sons, Dr. David Streiff, and Dr. Jon Streiff; son-in-law, Ed Owens; daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan Streiff; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by son, Dr. William F. Streiff Jr.

• A Celebration of Life service with military honors and Masonic funeral rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at the Alvin Masonic Lodge at 111 W. Blum Street in Alvin, Texas.
