WAKEFIELD – Sylvester Peter “Sal” Eakes, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. 

He was born May 14, 1932 to George and Barbara (Roth) Eakes in Plains. 

He married Carmen Marie Swaim Sept. 4, 1954 at The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. She survives. 

He graduated from Plains High School in 1950. 

He entered the military with the United States Air Force and ultimately settled with his family in Wakefield in 1965 after his military career. 

He enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time with his friends and family. 

He was a family man and was known as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. 

Survivors also include sons, Thomas Eakes and John Eakes; six sisters: Geraldine Eakes, Great Bend, Mary Friesen, Wichita, Regina Walters, Wichita, Cecilia Chinn, Bakersfield, Calif., Josephine Blacksten, Yukon, Okla., and Frances McCreedy, Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jerome. 

 Funeral services will take place at a later date. 

Dove Cremation and Funeral Service in Junction City has been made in charge of the arrangements.
