GUYMON, Okla. – Ralph Terril Gilbert, 87, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at his home in Guymon, Okla.

He was born April 9, 1930 to Kathryn Mae “Katie” and Harry “Jack” Gilbert on the Gilbert home just north of Liberal.  

He married Mary Lou Renfroe Oct. 17, 1951 in Clayton, N.M.  She preceded him in death Jan. 31, 2017. 

He graduated from Moscow High School in 1948.  

He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed in Florida, California and Texas, 

After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Kansas and began working for Magnolia Petroleum Company in 1954, which was later purchased by Mobil Oil. 

He began his career as a plant operator at the Hickock Gas Plant near Ulysses, and transferred to the Huff Plant near Guymon as a meter man in 1973, where he retired in 1986. 

He found his Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at the New Life Christian Center in 1993.  He and Mary Lou loved their church family and the friendships found in Christ.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and also enjoyed flying radio control airplanes with the local Flying Tigers RC Club, model railroading, photography, fishing, gardening, watching KU basketball, checking on the farm, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include four sons: Terry and Karen Gilbert, Phoenix, Royce and Deanna Gilbert, Wamego, Arlen Gilbert and Natashia, Guymon, Okla., and James Gilbert and Shannon, Phoenix; sister, Zelma Kossuth, Hugoton; nine grandchildren: Matthew Gilbert, Tammy Hightower, Rachelle Bennett, Anthony Gilbert, Austin Gilbert, Ashley Wurtz, Trevor Gilbert, Luke Waechter, and Tesla Gilbert; and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

 Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel with Rev. John and Cathy Henry presiding. Military graveside rites will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the Moscow Cemetery in Moscow. 

Friends may call from 12 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 with the Gilbert family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth Street, Guymon, Okla.
