Obituary


Vaden Gary Shorter, 60, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born on June 13, 1957 to Charles Philip and Vera Margene (Moore) Shorter in Ulysses.

He worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Services for 25 years in Ulysses.

He was a member of No-till on the Plains and a member of the Grant County Farm Bureau Board. 

He was very active as a youth in the Bearcreek Boosters 4-H Club. 

He also enjoyed car racing, tractor pulls and All-Star Wrestling.

He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1976 and graduated from Beloit Vo-Tech with a diploma in agriculture in 1978.

Survivors include his mother; brothers, Marvin Shorter, Holyrood, and Verlin Shorter and wife, Dinah, Ulysses; three sisters: Lucinda Davis and husband, Dwayne, Pickens, S.C., Johanna Aleck and husband, Marc, Clemson, S.C., and Janet Freed and husband, Robert, Delta, Colo.; eight nieces and nephews; special friend, Susan Blair, Satanta; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; and nephew, Cale Davis.

 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses 

Burial will take place at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home in Ulysses.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Children Hospital, American Cancer Society, Future Farmers of America or Grant County 4-H. Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
