ULYSSES – William Terry Stuart, 69, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas.  

He was born Feb. 10, 1948 to Archie Lamar and Kathryn Lou Stuart in Salem, Ill.  

He married Kathy Gaskill March 12, 1972, in Ulysses. She survives. 

He graduated from Ulysses High School.  He furthered his education at Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University and Wichita State University to receive his bachelor’s degree.  

He served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War.  

During his career, he worked as a State Trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol and served as the Grant County Recreation Director. He was the owner of the Sports Page Bar and Grill, and was a case manager at Area Mental Health.  

He was a member of Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79.  

Survivors also include sons, Trevor Stuart, Oklahoma City, and Tanner Stuart and wife, Leigha, Amarillo, Texas; daughter, Tera Jo Gerber and husband, Clay, Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren: Brayden Ridgway, Gracie Jo Ridgway, Taycen Gerber and Creed Stuart, all of Amarillo, Texas; sisters, Susan Kibbie, Carencro, La., and Mary Ann McGillvray and husband, Kelly, Colorado Springs.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Todd Guinn and Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger presiding. Military rites will be conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post# 79. 

Memorials are suggested to Grant County Recreation Commission or the Historic Adobe Museum both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
