The Mid-America Air Museum typically has a wide variety of aircraft for visitors to browse through during a walk through the premises in west Liberal.

This year on St. Patrick’s Day, aircraft enthusiasts will still be able to look through the planes, but joining the permanent exhibits will be some craft of the ground variety.

The MOPAR Shakers of the Plains will host a cruise in event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at MAAM.

Though the air museum is not the official host of the event, MAAM Marketing and Community Outreach Specialist Sarah Thompson said the museum is excited to have the classic cars on display on St. Patty’s Day.

“It’s a unique opportunity for visitors to come look at both cars and aircraft and for auto enthusiasts to get their picture with their car with a jet, which is kind of cool,” she said. “It’s just something different and unique we’ve never done out here.”

Car and aircraft enthusiasts are welcome. The first 200 people score a free hot dog from Shakers of the Plains, and admission to the air museum is free to all the day of the show.

From 10 a.m. to noon, visitors to the event can have their photo taken with a ground ride and a jet for a $2 donation to the museum. Brenda K Eldson Photography will be on site providing professionally edited photos of their ride with the jet for $10.

Thompson said she was contacted by MOPAR club officials to set the wheels in motion for the show.

“One of the gentlemen who’s part of the club called and said he’s been wanting to do something with the air museum for a while and thought this would be a good opportunity,” she said. “I had him come meet with our director, and they kind of hashed out the date.”

Everyone is invited to bring the family for a day of fun, autos and aircraft. The event is sponsored by Chrysler Corner, Fastenal and Panhandle Pizza.
