A Liberal-based business is one of many on the list to receive awards from the Kansas Small Business Development Center next Tuesday at its annual Small Business Awards ceremony.

T & B Towing is one of several Kansas businesses receiving this year’s Existing Businesses of the Year award.

T & B owner Ty Rader is the only business owner in Southwest Kansas to receive the award, and the region is represented by 21 counties.

To get the award, a business has to have been operating for at least three years. Rader began T & B in the fall of 2013. Mike O’Kane, director of Liberal’s KSBDC office, said since that time, the business has done quite well.

“I’m very proud of him and the award,” he said.

O’Kane said T & B operates in five states, including Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

Each of Kansas’s SBDC regional center, including Liberal’s, have selected one emerging and one existing business for the upcoming awards. Two exporting businesses were selected as well.

In total, Kansas small businesses will be recognized Tuesday at a ceremony in Topeka. The businesses were selected from more than 2,400 businesses that received Kansas SBDC one-on-one business advising services in 2017.

“The selected businesses were chosen through careful consideration by our Kansas SBDC regional directors and advisors,” Kansas SBDC State Director Greg Panichello said. “Collectively, the Kansas SBDC team believes these 17 small businesses are excellent examples of small businesses that have learned to adapt and succeed in challenging times.

WIBW-TV anchor and reporter Melissa Brunner will emcee the event.
