Kaeleah Chaloupek had a solid day in the circle, and the Lady Redskins were able to take advantage of walks and a strong hitting effort to sweep the Ulysses Lady Tigers 12-2, 17-9 Tuesday in the home opener for Liberal.

Chaloupek allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in a 12-2 in Game 1.

Ulysses took advantage of a walk in the first inning and a single to score first, but the Lady Redskins answered with three hits, two walks and four runs in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Lady Redskins took advantage of walks and three batters being hit by pitches to score seven more runs in the second inning tot ake an 11-1 lead.

But the Lady Tigers switched pitchers, and for two innings the Lady Redskins couldn’t score a run. Ulysses took advantage of a bean ball and two Lady Redskin errors to score a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 11-2, but Liberal responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run-rule win, 12-2.

Chaloupek, Lacie Lanning and Eyleen Vasquez each scored twice in the win.

In Game 2, Chaloupek again got the start and held the Lady Tigers scoreless for two innings.

The Lady Redskins scored six runs in the second, and after Ulysses pushed a run across in the third, Liberal scored four more in the third.

But the Lady Redskins made a switch in the circle to Alexia Torres who allowed four runs in the fourth before using a double play to get out of a jam, but four more runs were credited to Torres before Chaloupek returned to the circle to close out the 17-9 Liberal win.

Torres scored four runs, and Chaloupek and Mikayla Zapien each scored three.

Liberal moved to 4-0 and will host Hugoton at 4 p.m. Thursday.
