L&T photo/Earl Watt Special to the Leader & Times Liberal battled the Dodge City Red Demons for 40 minutes of regulation and for two five-minute overtime periods with no goals scored, but Dodge City was able to make three penalty kicks in an overtime shootout, and the Lady Redskins missed three attempts in the loss. Dodge City’s Angie Ojeda was able to block two of Liberal’s three attempts, and another Lady Redskins attempt sailed high. Ojeda was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season and was also a member of the Class 6A All State team. Liberal attempted 10 shots at Ojeda in regulation but could not get the ball past the standout goalie. “She truly is a great keeper and improved so much even from last year,” Liberal coach Carlos Ruiz said. Aless Moldanado made her first varsity start for the Lady Redskins in the goal, and she denied six Dodge City shot attempts in regulation. But Dodge City was abel to push three penalty kicks into the goal in the shootout. The loss dropped the Lady Redskins to 1-3 with two of those losses coming to Dodge City, one by a single goal in regulation and the other by shootout penalty kicks. The Lady Redskins will close out the Titan Classic Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Wichita East. Liberal will return to Redskin Field Tuesday to host Great Bend Liberal will then host Hays Thursday. “Overall our team truly has improved and we played a very good game today,” Ruiz said. “We possessed more and created chances forward.”
