Seward had a size advantage Wednesday night against Barton County,
and the Lady Saints took advantage of it.
Amanda Pierson and Nadia Rosario combined for 26 points in an 82-75
Jayhawk Conference win over the Lady Cougars.
Rachel Barnes led the Lady Saints with 17 points. Megan Lassley and
Vanessa Simmons each added nine.
Seward had a 37-33 halftime lead, but Barton scored the first four
points in the second to tie the game.
But Seward applied a modified press that caused the Lady Cougars some
problems, and the Lady Saints went on a 12-2 run to take a 49-39 lead.
“We changed our press to slow them down,” Seward coach Toby Wynn said.
Barton squeezed the lead down to four with 38.6 seconds to play, but
the Lady Saints were able to make key shots in the final moments to
preserve the win.
“We had some bad possessions on offense,” Wynn said. “We weren’t
smart with our decision making, and that let them back in the game.”
The Lady Saints advanced to 14-2 on the season, 2-0 in conference
play. Seward is tied with Cloud County for the conference lead.
