Deaton dominates on both sides as Liberal downs Guymon 49-33

Tyson Deaton had the responsibiliyt of shutting down Guymon’s leading scorer Tuesday night, and the Redskin senior pitched a shutout to help Liberal earn a 49-33 win and advance to 2-0.
Deaton held Trey Fankhauser to zero points while leading the Redskins with 13 of his own.
Braxton Dain did all he could for the Tigers. The junior scored 17 points but received little support form the rest of the Tigers.
Liberal shot out to a 12-4 lead early, but Dain scored 12 second quarter points to keep the game close at 24-16 at halftime.
Matthew Legrange started the second half with a three-pointer and Dain hit a basket and a free throw to narrow the gap to 28-22.
But Liberal went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead back to 36-22.
Dain and Fankhauser were both shut out in the fourth quarter, and the Redskins went on a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach with a 46-24 lead.
Guymon went scoreless for four minutes in the fourth quarter.
Jade Cathey was the early spark for the Redskins, scoring eight of his 11 points in the first quarter.
When Guymon cut the lead to six, Deaton took over, scoring six points in a minute and a half including a three-pointer, a basket and a free throw.
Bryan Morris kicked in two three pointers for the Redskins.
Deaton led Liberal with 13 points, Cathey had 11, Morris scored 10 and Kenlee West scored seven.
Liberal (2-0) will return to the Bg House Friday for the first round of the Conestoga Classic.
