Seward County has a new planning and zoning department head.
After a little more than four years in the position, Stacy Johnson submitted his resignation as administrator of the department on Nov. 11, and human resources director April Warden said Johnson took a job offer from Howard Drilling.
Warden said the planning and zoning department was reorganized recently, and Marcie Weatherly has now been hired as the officer for the department, having been promoted from within the department.
Warden added the county is also seeking a new building inspector and code enforcer.
“We haven’t had a lot of luck,” she said. “We’ve only received two applications, but it’s Christmas time. Hopefully, we can find more applicants after the first of the year.”
Warden said Weatherly is knowledgeable and has the certifications for the job.
“We’re excited about the transition,” Warden said. “She’s a very by the book kinda gal. It’s not always easy to be in those positions because you make people angry, but we’ve got to follow the rules or there’s no reason.”
