A tough start and tough end led to a 64-55 loss for the No. 4 Liberal Redskins at Hays.

The Indians jumped out to an 18-11 lead in the first quarter. Liberal played even in the second quarter and reduced the seven-point lead to two in the third quarter.

But Hays went on a run to extend the lead to five by the end of the third.

Hays took advantage of a number of Redskin turnovers in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 14 before Liberal narrowed the gap to the 64-55 final.

Jade Cathey led the Redskins with 13 points, Eric Brown scored 12, and Alex Gilmore scored 12. Kevin Livingston had nine.

Liberal will host Garden City Tuesday.

The Liberal junior varsity boys lost to Hays, 60-47.

The Redskin freshmen defeated the Indians 64-59.
