Daily Leader staff report

The Lady Redskins may have a better understanding of the importance of spares.

Liberal dropped five consecutive matches at Wichita after winning three in a row.

The result was a 15th place finish rather than a top five performance.

“If you think about it, one more spare per game, and we win nine straight pool games,” Liberal coach Robert Burkey said. “I preach spares every day. I told them this just stresses my point.”

The day did not go any better for the Redskins.

While the competition was tough (the Redskins had to face  the first, third and fourth place teams from Class 6A a year ago), the Redskins did not bowl the necessary average to compete.

The result was an 18th place finish.

“That is just unacceptable,” Burkey said. “The most disappointing thing about the trip was finishing behind Dodge City and Garden City.

We now have a lot of work to do.”

Liberal will host Garden City and Holcomb Tuesday at Ayr Lanes. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
