In Loving Memory

SATANTA – Vern L. “Jell” Lambert, 87, of Hooker, Oklahoma, went to be with his Savior and Lord December 28, 2010, at Satanta District Hospital, Satanta, Kansas.

Jell was born October 13, 1923, at Tyrone, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse Floyd and Grace Mable Laurie Lambert.

He attended school in Adams, Oklahoma, and graduated from Adams High School with the Class of 1942. After graduation he was united in marriage to Evelyn Jane Hearne on June 26, 1943, in Hooker, Oklahoma.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served as an electrician on board three different ships, the USS Wayne, the USS SC716 subchaser and the YMS394. During World War II, he served seventeen months with the U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, California, as an electrician and helped to perfect the amphibian tank chemical flame thrower by wiring rockets on LCM’s for beach control.

After the war, he returned to Hooker and worked as a plumber for Marshall Plumbing and later worked as a stillman for Dorchester Gas Plant and also farmed southeast of Hooker.

In 1959, he established his own business, Lambert Plumbing and Repair. He was also a building inspector for the City of Hooker for many years. Jell was always finding ways to help others which spurred him to help at Miller Mortuary in Liberal, Kansas, Henson-Novak Funeral Directors in Guymon, Oklahoma, and in the last number of years at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.

Jell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hooker, Oklahoma. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW for 67 years. He has been a member of the Hooker Masonic Lodge since 1950 and was installed as Worshipful Master in 1986. He initiated the Blue Slipper pin in honor the widows of Master Masons and was voted the award Mr. Mason in 2000.

He is a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Jell also served as Rainbow Dad during the 1960s and was awarded the Grand Cross of Color for the Order of Rainbow for girls.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of the home; his daughter, Janet Lawson and her husband Hershel of Satanta, Kansas; his son, Rick Lambert and his wife Nancy of Satanta, Kansas; four grandchildren John Lawson, Joshua and Matt Lambert and Rachel Lambert Lee;  great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Madeline Lee, Logan, Jayson & Peyton Lambert, and Macie Lawson; a special couple, Bill & Linda Wright; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Lambert.

Jell is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Martin, Harvey, Clyde and Bruce Lambert, and one grandson, Jason Lambert.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Ambulance Association or the Hooker Cemetery Fund and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Brother Jim Roebuck, Brother Randy Caddell, and Brother Cliff Baze officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Hooker, Oklahoma.
