The annual Southwest Shootout wrestling tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday in The Big House. Seventeen teams from four states will compete.
In addition to Liberal, Cimarron, Albuquerque (N.M.) Cleveland, Colby, Elkhart, Goodland, Grandview (Colo.), Hays, Holcomb, Hugoton, La Junta (Colo.), Lakin, Pratt, Sublette, Ulysses and Amarillo Tascosa will be at LHS on Saturday.
The Redskins will be without the services of Justin McPhail, one of the team’s top wrestlers, who is in San Antonio trying out for the U.S. Army all-star football game. Juniors try out for the game, and if they are selected, will play in next year’s contest.
McPhail is undefeated on the wrestling mat and is ranked No. 5 in the State of Kansas.
