KISMET — It was an ugly game at Southwestern Heights on Friday night
when the Mustangs showed several weeks off but still won 48-29
against the Hugoton Eagles.  Trenton Specht led with 14 points, Jacob
Flores had 9, and Cody Eakes and Cory Ryan each added 8.
Both sides played tough and the Eagles scored first, but it was
the only lead they would ever have.  The end of the first quarter
showed the Mustangs leading 8-4.
With a low-scoring second quarter, the name of the game was
rebounds.  The Mustangs out rebounded the Eagles with a total 34
rebounds to the Eagles’ 17.  The halftime score clock point progress
was only 17-14 with the Mustangs never giving up their advantage.
Mustang Coach Brett Nowack quoted Assistant Coach Jack Johnson
repeating, “It was an ugly game, but sometimes ugly is beautiful.”
Coach Nowack credited “both sides for playing hard.”
But, the Eagles couldn’t find the basket even in the third quarter
where the score progressed to 30-18.  The forced turnovers by the
Mustangs were key where Oscar Sigala took a large part in the teams’
12 steals.
With the crowd begging for fouls to be called in the final minute of
the game, the final quarter took forever with the Eagles making one
last attempt at redemption.  To no avail, the Eagles suffered a 48-29
loss to the Mustangs.
