KISMET — The Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs forced 41 turnovers
on Friday night to win 70-15 against the Hugoton Lady Eagles with 16
points from Deni Jacobs and 14 points from Holly Brown.
The Lady Mustangs took advantage of the Hugoton Eagles during the
first half of the game at Southwestern Heights. With the Lady
Mustangs allowing only two points to the Lady Eagles during the first
quarter, the Eagles struggled to get the ball past the half-court line.
The press from the Lady Mustangs was ferocious – not just one player,
but every Mustang got their hands in the way to deflect passes
causing numerous steals.
Britny Butler, Vivian Olvera, and Holly Brown led with seven steals
The Lady Mustangs let up some during the second quarter bringing the
score to 41-7 at halftime.
The third quarter produced the same results as the Mustangs defense
kept forcing steals even without a press.
“They were anxious to play since they hadn’t played since the 19th,”
Lady Mustangs coach Barry Mellen said,
Even with multiple substitutions from the Lady Mustangs during the
fourth quarter, the Eagles could not catch a break.
The Mustangs ground in their heels until the end with a 70-15 win.
