For a time Monday night, it looked like the South Middle School 7th grade A team was going to do what the B and C teams could not.
Win at West.
But West found its shooting stroke in the second half and cruised to a 38-16 win over the Apaches, completing a 3-game sweep in the West Middle School gym.
West jumped to a 4-0 advantage on baskets by Angel Archuleta and Jared Hasik. But South went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter up 7-4.

West regrouped heading into the second, and out-scored South 9-2 in the period to take a 13-9 halftime lead.
After a Tim Fitzgerald free throw cut it to 7-5, Kaiden Long put one away to tie it at 7. Fitzgerald struck again to give West a 9-7 lead before Long put West ahead 11-7. Fitzgerald made it 13-7 before South put one in when Javier Michel stole the ball and took it in for a score.
West came out on fire in the third, opening with a 9-0 run, led by Caleb Brond and Hasik, to take a 22-9 lead before the Apaches knew what hit them.
Jair Valles put one in for South to end the run, but the damage had been done.
The teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the third as West led 28-15 after Ryan Doll nailed a 2-pointer at the buzzer to end the period.
South would only manage one free throw in the fourth as West ended the game on an 8-1 run. Fitzgerald, Hasik and Cordell Whitaker scored West’s points in the final frame, Whitaker on 3-of-6 shooting from the free throw line.
