BEAVER, Okla. — For Beaver girls basketball coach Casey Jones, there’s always something his team can do better. But he’s looking with a coach’s eyes.
To the average basketball fan, Friday’s 69-25 Lady Duster win over Rolla seemed almost flawless.
“There’s always things I see that I think I need to work on more in practice,” Jones said. “And I saw stuff tonight, too.”
The Lady Dusters executed its pressure defense almost to perfection early on, creating turnovers and not really allowing Rolla to even cross the center line, let alone get a look at the basket.
Before the Lady Pirates could blink, they were behind 25-0.
Beaver (17-2) went on to a 27-2 first quarter lead and held a 42-8 halftime lead.
Jones let a lot of his younger players see some action as Beaver led 58-13 at the end of the third.
Things won’t be so easy over the next few games as the Dusters travel to Hooker on Tuesday and host Texhoma next Friday night.
“The next four games we’re going to be playing people that will have a good, solid post girl that we’re going to have to defend,” Jones said. “We’re going to have to stay out of foul trouble.
“We’ll be back here Monday morning at 6:30, we’ll be back at it.”
Four Lady Dusters scored in double figures, led by Catie Rife’s 18. Erin Becker added 15, Jordan Jesko 12, Anna McDonald 10, Jacinda Balderrama 6, Kalie Hoover 4, Sara Frederick and Shelby Brown 2 each.
