L&T staff report
TYRONE, Okla. — The Tyrone Bobcats got back on the winning track and improved their record to 14-3 overall with a 64-38 win over Keyes on Friday night on Homecoming.
Tyrone led 40-12 at halftime and 55-25 after three.
The win was a good bounce back after a tough loss at Turpin on Tuesday.
“There’s no shame in losing to Turpin, they’re a good ballclub and they’ve gotten better as the year has gone on,” Tyrone coach Clay Witt said.
Travis Shield missed the Turpin game, but was back on the court against Keyes.
“It was great to have him back,” Witt said. “He had 10 steals, so that shows you how active he was. We really missed him and what he brings to the court.”
Everybody got playing time and all but three scored. Austin Olivas and Tyler Lai scored nine, Jacob Williams and Shield had eight points.
The Bobcats will play host to Goodwell on Monday night in a make-up game from an earlier snow-out. The girls will play at 6:30 and the boys around 8 p.m.
• In other action Friday, the Tyrone girls downed Keyes to improve to 8-9.
• The Turpin boys continued their improvement, even though they fell at Laverne, 46-45. Laverne went into the game with a 15-4 record, while Turpin was 9-10. Now 9-11 overall, the Cards host hot-shooting Class 4A Guymon on Tuesday.
• The Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs improved to 10-2 overall with a solid 57-35 win at Leoti on Friday night.
The Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will be back on the road again on Tuesday night when they slips across the border to face Forgan, Okla.
