MacArthur student Rene Mendoza, second from right, is the recipient of this year’s Jean Randall Scholarship.

Mendoza is congratulated by his teacher, Jan Robertson, his mother, Anna, and Randall’s daughter, Jill Tanking. Randall first awarded the scholarship in 1991. The scholarship is awarded annually to a selected student from one of Liberal’s elementary schools. Randall puts the money into a fund, and when the student reaches 18 years of age, they will have money to start with. The scholarship can be used for a four-year college, two- year college, a vo-tech or any school the student desires to attend..
