Mustangs cruise past Sublette
By CHRIS YEARICK

KISMET — Coming out with voracious intensity, the Sublette Larks
wanted vengeance against the Southwestern Heights Mustangs on Friday
night in Kismet. But a strong defensive second quarter by Heights led
the way to a 48-27 Mustang win.
Almost immediately, the Larks put a 3-pointer on the board, and the
apprehension could be felt from the crowd with the first quarter
ending with the Larks leading 11-12.
Defiant, the posts from the Mustangs came back monster mad during the
second quarter.  Cory Ryan, who was the game high scorer with 16
points, shut down the Lark offense with numerous blocks in the lane.
A change from last week’s ugly, this new and  beautiful Mustang pride
took the lead from the Larks to end the half 24-14.
Coach Chad Novack beemed with pride of his posts Cory Ryan, Cody
Eakes, and Jacob Flores stating “they played as big as they are.”
Feeling settled during the third quarter, the Mustangs played tight
defense against the quick ball movements of the Larks’ offense.
Senior Trenton Specht, who added 12 points, was a powerhouse with
steals, assists, and the ever-present threat of the three-point shot.
The name of the game was still those posts where the crowd went crazy
over Ryan and Cody Eakes racking up the third quarter score 39-20.
Assistant Coach Jack Johnson praised the unselfishness of the team.
“They don’t care who scores, they just play,” he said.
The Larks worked during the fourth quarter to fix their game, but no
remedy was to be found as the Mustangs delivered a second blow to the
Larks to win 48-27.
