L&T staff report
LAVERNE, Okla. — The Beaver Lady Dusters advanced to the regional championship and guaranteed themselves a berth in the area tournament with a 36-28 win over Texhoma, Thursday evening. Beaver (22-2) will play No. 5 Okarche (19-5) Saturday night in Woodward’s Boomer Fieldhouse.
Texhoma adjusted its game plan from the last time the two teams met — a 52-38 win for Beaver in the Duster Dome.
“They ran a junk defense on us, trying to tie up my main three scorers alot,” Beaver coach Casey Jones said. “We had to be a little bit more patient on offense. It leads to a low scoring game.”
Beaver led 22-14 at the half.
Erin Becker and Catie Rife got in a little foul trouble in the first half and had to rotate.
“We were alot more patient on offense and not shooting the ball as much as we normally do,” Jones said.
Becker led the Lady Dusters with 10 points, Rife seven, Shelby Brown seven, Anna McDonald five, Jordan Jesko four a Jacinda Balderrama three.
Okarche presents a challenge for Beaver as they have a little more size, which is something the Lady Dusters have struggled against this season.
“They’re a big team,” Jones said. “They run a wide-open half-court type trap and zone. They’ve got a really good guard.
“They’ve got a post who had been out for awhile, she’s back now.”

In the boys game, Texhoma held a 23-19 lead over the Dusters at halftime, but Beaver (17-9) outscored the Red Devils 27-9 in the second half to pull away for the win.
Beaver plays Drummond (11-11) today at 3 p.m. at Woodward’s Boomer Fieldhouse. Drummond lost to Okarche on Thursday.
Cole Trippet led Beaver with 16 points, Samuel Becker added nine, Kalen Gabel seven, Allan Butterfield five, Tanner McFarland and David Rivers four each.
