Daily Leader staff report

After reeling off nine consecutive wins, the No. 13 Lady Saints suffered their first Jayhawk West loss of the season on the road to Cloud County, 87-71.

It was the team’s first loss since the Jayhawk Shootout Dec. 5.

No. 15 Cloud County used balance scoring from all five starters to knock off the Lady Saints in what has been one of the toughest venues for Seward in recent memory.

Cloud also used the three-pointer to build the lead, connecting on six of 12 shots while Seward only hit three out of 11 attempts.

The loss dropped the Lady Saints into second place in the conference, one game behind Cloud.

Both teams were undefeated in the Jayhawk West heading in to the key match-up.

The Lady Saints (4-1) do not have a game Wednesday and have a week to prepare for Dodge City.

The Lady Conquistadors are 0-5 in the Jayhawk West so far this season.

Seward will then travel to Garden City before returning home Jan. 31 to face Butler County.
