That’s all the Fort Scott Lady Greyhounds scored in the first half against the Lady Saints in the first round of the Region VI tournament.
The strong defensive effort led the Lady Saints to a 64-41 win. Seward advanced to Koch Arena where the Lady Saints will face Cowley, the No. 1 seed from the Jayhawk East.
Seward scored the first 17 points of the game before the Lady Greyhounds put in their first basket. The defensive effort held Fort Scott scoreless for the first eight-and-a-half minutes of the game.
And Fort Scott didn’t help their cause. The Lady Greyhounds missed all five free throw attempts in the first half and went zero for four form the three-point line.
By the end of the first half, Seward held Fort Scott to 17 percent shooting.
But the fifth place team from the Jayhawk East recovered in the second half and played closer to even with the Lady Saints.
Fort Scott needed 20 minutes to score their first 10 points but only three minutes of the second half to score 10 more.
With 18:41 to play, Fort Scott cut Seward’s lead to 12 points.
But that is as close as they would get.
Kayla Thomas had a field day with turnovers and transition baskets, scoring 14 points, most of them on lay-ups.
Seward forced 31 Lady Greyhound turnovers.
Mariah Lee led the Lady Saints with 19 points. She also avoided foul trouble, something that plagued her in the regular season.
Mattie Yanke scored 10.
Seward (21-10) will face Cowley (24-7) at 7 p.m. Friday in the second round at Charles Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State University.
The winner will advance to the Final Four and play at 3 p.m. Sunday.
