ANDOVER — The Liberal Lady Redskins did what they needed to do to beat Andover Central — keep their leading scorer in check. Problem was, the Lady Jaguars had other players step up.
The result was a 58-46 win for Andover Central, ending Liberal’s season with a 9-12 record.
In the ebb and flow of the game, Liberal got down early and dug itself too big of a hole. The Lady Redskins brought it back to within eight points late in the game, but ran out of time in the 12-point defeat.
“They just had a girl, Perez, she just went off, played out of her mind,” Liberal head coach Shane Stout said. “We shut down their leading scorer. We held her to three points on the night. They had this other girl who ended up scoring 23 points and she averages single digits.”
The Lady Redskins were competitive and played hard.
“We couldn’t get back in the game,” Stout said.
So, a 9-12 season is disappointing, and Liberal loses four seniors. But the Lady Red should have several key players back next season.
“We lost several close games, it’s a disappointing end,” Stout said. “We’ve got to become better shooters and better basketball players before next year.
“We’ve got four seniors who we’ll miss. But to sum it up, it is disappointing.”
Justice Norah scored close to her season average, draining 21 points for Liberal Wednesday night. Megan Campbell scored 10, Marisol Regalado six, Kirsten Ross three, Destiny Hall two, Jai Chapman two and Emily Bayouth two.
The Redskin boys will be at home tonight at 7 to take on Kapaun Mt. Carmel in their 5A Sub-State contest.
