Liberal High School is in search of a new football coach today after Wade Standley tendered his resignation during Monday night’s school board meeting.
Standley posted a 6-12 coaching record in two seasons at Liberal High School and has accepted the head coaching position at Norman North High School in Oklahoma. He said the move was a good opportunity for he and his family.
“Liberal has just been an incredible experience for my family and I,” Standley said this morning. “The kids here are great kids. I love these kids. They’re hard-working. It’s been a great time to be here and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity that I’ve had here to work with these young men.
“I know that their will be great things ahead here.”
Norman Public School board members announced Standley’s selection following a brief closed-door debate during a special meeting Tuesday in Norman.
Standley came to Liberal from Oklahoma powerhouse Tulsa Union, where he was an assistant coach. He was also an assistant in Edmond, Okla., and was boys track coach at Dallas Trinity Christian in Texas.
“We’re excited about coach Standley and moving forward with the program. We can’t wait for the season,” Ron Uhles, co-vice president of the Norman North Football Booster Club, told The Norman Transcript.
Liberal athletic director Scott Hinkle said the process to find Standley’s replacement is already under way.
“We want to move quick on this,” he said. “We are optimistic we will have something in place this week.”
