BUFFALO, Okla. — A little Spring Break rest did the Turpin Cardinals some good. The Cards returned to action Monday after a week off and promptly blasted the Buffalo Bison 7-1 and 14-0 on the road.
The wins give Turpin a 4-2 overall record heading into Thursday’s road trip to Laverne.
“The kids are starting to hit the ball and put it in play,” head coach Mario Mendoza said. “Anything can happen when you put it in play.”
Clinton Toney won game one, striking out 11, allowing just four hits. Andrew Bowers won game two with a one-hitter, striking out three.
Toney and Matt Mendoza each had a hit in the first game as the Bison pitchers walked a high number of batters. Toney’s hit knocked in two runs.
Javier Alvarez was 2-for-3 in game two, Mendoza 2-for-2 with an RBI and Jake Zielke was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Next up for the Cardinals is a trip to Laverne on Thursday before returning home Monday to face Buffalo again. The Cardinals will entertain Tyrone next Tuesday.
