Children playing with fire was the cause of a blaze Tuesday afternoon in the 1500 block of North Sunset according to firefighting officials. Fire inspector Cody Regier said flames started around 5 p.m. in a group of evergreen trees in the backyard of a residence. Regier said with dry conditions persisting in the area, the fire spread quickly. The flames burned through a power line, cable wires and a gas meter in addition to three residents’ fences and trees in the neighborhood. Regier said officials from Black Hills Energy were on scene quickly to control gas leaks in the area of the fire, as were officials from Southern Pioneer Electric to deal with electric issues. Regier estimated it took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control, and it was contained to less than an acre. L&T photos/Robert Pierce
