Seward County will celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) in April by proclamation by the Board of County Commissioners.
Seward County’s featured community event will be the County Government Days for Kids. All fourth grade students residing in the city and county and attending USD No. 480; USD No. 483; and Fellowship Baptist School will have the opportunity to attend County Government Days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, and Wednesday, April 27, to see informational displays at the Seward County Event Center to highlight the many services provided by the county to the community.
This year, Seward County will also sponsor County Government Days for Adults the evening of April 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
“If you have ever wondered how the budget process takes place; or how the valuation of your property was determined; or things ‘inquiring minds might want to know’ this would be a good way to find out,” said county administrator Mary Bloomer. “Seward County is very proud of the many services it provides to the community, and we believe National County Government Month is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do; how we do it; and to have the opportunity to visit with county staff about the services that are provided.”
NCGM, which is sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo), was first celebrated in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation’s counties. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Serving Our Veterans, Armed Forces and Their Families.”
“National County Government Month is a great opportunity for the public to salute our local heroes,” Bloomer said.
Seward County is a member of NACo, the only national organization that represents county government in the United States and is based in Washington, D.C.
NACo provides essential services to the nations counties, advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public’s understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers.
