For nearly three-amd-a-half hours Friday night, a Liberal man was is an armed standoff with Liberal police officers and the Special Response Team. The man had beaten his 36-year-old girlfriend and threatened to kill her and himself, according to a report from Capt.

Pat McClurg.

At 11:18 p.m. Friday, officers of the Liberal Police Department responded to 1540 Clay Court after a 36-year-old female reported her 43-year-old boyfriend battered her and threatened to kill her and himself, the report noted.

“The woman reported the male was armed with several guns. She had minor injuries and refused medical treatment,” the release added.

The man, who was unidentified and will not be until he has his first appearance in court, was arrested for aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, criminal threat and disorderly conduct.

An affidavit will be forwarded to the Seward County Attorney for filing of formal charges, according to McClurg.
