Southwestern Heights dropped two on the road as Sublette Tuesday to move their overall record to 9-9. In Game 1, the Lady Mustangs saw their best chance at a win slip through their fingers in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 12-11 loss.
Just one inning earlier Heights had rallied to score five in the top of the fifth to take an 11-10 lead, after trailing most of the game.
The Lady Mustangs did hold an early lead, scoring four in the first. Sublette answered with three in the bottom half of the first, and took a commanding 8-4 lead with five more in the bottom of the second. Heights score one more in the third and in the fourth to cut the lead to 8-6. But Sublette answered again with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
At the plate, Heights finished with 11 hits, three walks, and only two strikeouts.
Morgan Eakes took the loss giving up ten hits and four walks while collecting nine strikeouts.
Lexi Stark was 3-4 with a run scored. Rachel Stout was 2-3 with a triple and two walks, and three runs scored. Morgan Eakes was 2-5 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.
In Game 2, the Lady Larks took control early with a 10-run second inning that led to a 16-6 run-rule win in six innings.
Southwestern Heights did not help their cause with seven fielding errors and seven walks, while Sublette had only two errors and five walks.
Heights did, once again, hold an early 3-2 lead after and inning and a half, but fell apart in the bottom half of the second.
Morgan Eakes pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven walks while striking out three. The loss dropped her season pitching record to 8-8.
Eakes did help herself at the plate, going 2-4 with a RBI, and two runs scored. Lexi Stark finished 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Lady Mustangs will travel to Syracuse next Monday for their next matchup.
