The students in Mr. Richard Dent’s eighth grade classes have been preparing poetry notebooks. “They have done a mighty fine job of collecting poems this year and illustrating many of them with pictures,” Dent said. “Many students discover that they have a knack for writing poetry.” This project began in 1972 at South Junior High and has carried over through the years at both South and West Middle School. It is one project Dent will miss doing with students when he retires this year. Dent said he hopes somebody will pick up this project next year and run with it. “It is a very valuable tool for education reading and the language arts,” he said. Dent is proud of this year’s students and their work, and some of their notebook covers are shown in this picture. L&T photo/Robert Pierce
