Memorial Day Weekend is officially the start of the summer season with the opening of Adventure Bay Family Water Park. This year, a new season also means a new manager.
Manager Joe Marten is a 2011 Emporia State University graduate with training under his belt that has equipped him with the knowledge to train his staff at Adventure Bay Family Water Park.
“When I initially got here, I was really only missing one certification, and that was in Aquatics Facility Operator,” Marten said. “I obtained that in March. Before I got here, I was already lifeguard certified, I was CPR/AED certified, I also came with a lifeguarding instructor certification which is called an LGI. What that does is allows me to train my own lifeguards.
“All of my staff will be CPR/First Aid trained this year – and they will have all received it through me,” he explained. “All of the lifeguards will have received their certification through me because I recertified everybody this year. Also, before I came here, I had Water Safety Instructor, which allows me to teach swim lessons. I am working to obtain the certification that allows me to train my own swim lesson instructors. I’m in the learning process as well, because I am still trying to obtain more certifications.”
Marten said his staff has worked hard and is ready for opening day.
“They are awesome,” he said. “We are getting ready to go, we have been training for the past month trying to get ready.”
Winter wear on the pool caused for some extra maintenance this year. However, Marten said, the pool will open promptly at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The pool will close at 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 7 p.m. on Sundays.
Marten would like to remind patrons children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Prices, he added, are $4 for adults and $3 for children.
Marten is looking forward to Saturday’s opening and invites the public to join the Adventure Bay Family Water Park staff to kick off the summer season.
“It is going to be a great year at the pool,” he said. “Hopefully, everybody will come out and visit us. Some things to look for will be the different events that have happened in years past. I am sure they will be back again this year.”
