Flags briskly fly Monday morning at Liberal Cemetery prior to the start of the first of two Memorial Day services hosted by the American Legion and Auxiliary.

ABOVE: Members of the National Guard and American Legion ready their weapons for the 21-gun salute Monday afternoon at Restlawn Cemetery. INSET RIGHT: The salute was followed by the playing of “Taps” by Legion member Howard Dunn. Earlier in the services, Janie Kitch explained the history of the song, and she also sang the words. Kitch likewise sang the “Star Spangled Banner” to start the ceremonies, and she would later perform “God Bless America” for Monday’s audiences.
